GOALKEEPER Josh Ollerenshaw pulled off a breathtaking injury-time save to preserve a point for Athletic in a goalless draw at Macclesfield Town in the North-West Conference of the Puma Youth Alliance.

Trialist striker Scott Hogan, a 16-year-old student from Salford College, impressed on his debut, having been recommended by former Athletic player Darren Sheridan, the college coach.

Athletic play Port Vale at Chapel Road in a league game on Saturday (11am).

FORMER Athletic players Ian Wood, Andy Rhodes, David Eyres and Rodger Wylde and current Boundary Park manager John Sheridan provide the all-star line-up for a fund-raising event.

Trust Oldham are staging ‘A Question of Latics’ at PlayHouse 2, Shaw, on Thursday, March 19.

It is being billed as a unique night of interview, chat, quiz and laughter.

Tickets, which are priced at £12 and include a pie supper, are available from Trust member Richard Attwood on 07590 696973.

NOT since their Premier League days have Athletic received such publicity on a global stage.

And it is all because of the pink kit they wore for their Coca-Cola League One game against Leeds United.

The fund-raising initiative for the Royal Oldham Hospital’s ‘Link4Pink Appeal’ has certainly fired the imagination.

It has made publications world wide, including the New York Times, while chief executive Alan Hardy was quizzed on the subject by a radio station in Dubai.

Bids for the shirts worn by the players can be made on www.oldhamathletic.co.uk and the closing date is tomorrow.

ATHLETIC may no longer be a Premier League outfit, but their popularity still stretches far and wide.

Venceslav Donchev e-mailed the OIdham Evening Chronicle to say he has established an Athletic fan club in Bulgaria.

He is asking fans to send him memorabilia, including team photographs, the club crest, pennant, matchday programmes or up to date calendars.

Items can be sent to: Venceslav Donchev, 4d Maria Gabrovska str, PO Box 6, 5000 Veliko Turnovo, Bulgaria.

STEVE Redmond, who played for Athletic in their Premier League days, made a sentimental return to the club.

He was at Chapel Road to watch his 18-year-old son Daniel play for Wigan against Athletic in a reserve-team friendly.

Unlike his father, who was a no-nonsense defender, Daniel is a creative left-sided midfield player.

Daniel was at Everton from the age of six until November when he was released in the second year of his scholarship. He has since been offered a 12-month professional contract by Wigan.

OFFICIALS from the Eastern Football Club in Connecticut, America, have contacted the Chronicle to say thank-you to Athletic for their recent hospitality.

Twenty-eight girls, aged between 12 and 17 years, spent a day at Boundary Park for the game against Northampton Town during their nine-day trip.

It was the club’s fourth successive tour of England and it was the second time they had watched Athletic. On both occasions, they have met Chris Taylor.
