A FUNDRAISING event was held in memory of a six-year-old girl who died suddenly of meningitis.

Well-wishers and friends have raised £650 for the family of Layla-Rose Ermenekli by taking part in a raffle and tombola at McDonald's in Failsworth.

As reported in the Chronicle last week "dancing angel" Layla-Rose was taken to A&E on Friday, February 3, with a high temperature but died in the early hours of Saturday, February 4, due to a rare infection known as meningococcal meningitis.

On hearing the sad news McDonald's employee Chelsea Johnson and her boss Wendy Riella rallied round to organise a fundraising event, complete with appearances from Paw Patrol characters Chase and Marshall.

Chelsea said: "The event was amazing. The support from everyone was immense.

"Everyone at work pulled together by collecting at the drive-through, face-painting and helping out generally.

"My boss Wendy was fantastic throughout, asking customers to support us and even holding a mini auction on toys to raise more funds.

"It was a lovely day."

Around 50 visitors attended the Oldham Road venue.

The money raised will be donated to help with funeral costs and to support family members at this difficult time.
