A FAILSWORTH mum has escaped jail after being caught drink-driving while her three-year-old son sat in the passenger seat.

The 33 year old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was more than twice the drink-drive limit when she was pulled over by police in Failsworth on November 22.

She was caught when staff at Morrisons informed the police as they believed her to be intoxicated when she left the store and got into her car with the boy.

The court heard that when police originally tried to pull her over, she stopped before driving off again.

When she was pulled over for a second time, the officer found the toddler sitting on three booster cushions in the passenger seat with the seatbelt incorrectly fastened under his arms - even though tere was a child seat in the back seat

The driver had 74 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath - more tha double the legal limit.

Oldham Magistrates disqualified the woman from driving for 20 months, which could be reduced by five months if a drink-drive rehabilitation course is completed within a year. She was also ordered to complete a specialist six-month programme to tackle a variety of issues, undertake 12 sessions to address alcohol abuse and pay £145 in costs.
