RAIN didn’t stop play in Failsworth as thousands of revellers enjoyed the two-day annual carnival at Lord Lane playing fields.

Failsworth Band kept visitors entertained and dancing troupes from across the borough performed throughout the event.

There were fairground rides for everyone, while vendors did a brisk trade to stave off hunger.

Visitors including the new Mayor of Oldham, Councillor Fida Hussain — were able to indulge their competitive side at a host of games.

The carnival was broadcast live on Oldham Community Radio with presenter Dave McGealy keeping listeners informed of the day’s events.

As usual the highlight was the parade led by carnival queens. Visitors lined Lord Lane to see the parade arrive back at the carnival site after a procession around the district.
