Car thief Wallwork swerves prison
Date published: 04 July 2014
FORMER Manchester United player Ronnie Wallwork has avoided jail after admitting stealing a £28,000 car.
Wallwork (36), from Failsworth, had an agreement with car finance company Money Barn PLC in June 2008, to make £41,000 of payments for an Audi A4
The former Red Devil, who won four England caps, had kept to the arrangement until his arrest for an illegal vehicle-breaking plot, for which he was jailed in December 2011 for 15 months.
The company tried to get the car back but Wallwork avoided contact. It was later discovered at the address of a then-partner, who reported the car stolen in October 2010.
At Manchester Crown Court, Wallwork admitted theft of the car and was ordered to carry out 120 hours of unpaid work and pay £1,200 costs.
