Landmark in the park

HOLLINWOOD and Limeside made the most of a fun day in the sun for all the family yesterday.

The day began with community mass at St Margaret’s Church, Hollinwood, followed by the procession to Limeside Park for the Hollinwood Together Festival.

The event this year marked the first in a series of community events over the next four years to mark the centenary of the start of the First World War and was the theme of the festival.

A wreath was laid at Hollinwood War Memorial in the church grounds and a two-minute silence was held before everyone headed down to Limeside Park for a day of family fun.

A number of different stalls were laid out, live music was performed, go-karting and large inflatables as well as many more fun activities were also on offer.

The annual event, which ran until 4pm, was a big hit with the community.

Alice Walker and Sylvia Dempster, who both live locally and attend St Margaret’s Church, went to morning mass and then joined the procession to the festival.

Mrs Walker said: “We just think it’s a great thing for the community and it really brings people together. It’s really nice to see people of all ages out enjoying themselves and we have been really lucky with such great weather.”
