A LOCAL singer has made the final 10 in a competition to form a girl band and perform at the Manchester Arena.

January Woodhead (25), of Hollinwood, is taking part in a Key 103 contest to select four girls who will also release a single in December.

The entrants were reduced to a group of 23 before the final 10 wee announced live on air.

Three of the final four will be selected by public vote, one by the judges.

January, who reached the last dozen hopefuls on the “The X Factor” in 2009, is delighted to have made it this far.

She said: “I don’t know how big it’s going to be but I’m trying my best to get my name out there. It’s a massive opportunity.”

The former Salford University music student has been singing around Oldham since she was in her mid-teens: “I’m determined to make it into the final band and see where it takes me.”
