JIM Thompson knew his shower-singing days were over when he told the TV nation: “Tonight Harry, I’m going to be...”

The Failsworth-born Morrissey fan entered “Stars In Their Eyes” by way of a video clip - and was shocked to be asked to audition.

Two weeks later, the 36 year old was being filmed for Saturday’s night’s show.

Jim, a railway signalman who now lives in Stockport, said: “I’m a big Smiths and Morrissey fan and I’ve sung as him before; the reaction from my friends has been quite good.

“When I was asked back by the show I realised I was among some really talented singers. The other four were semi-professional singers and some had got through to the boot camp stage of X Factor.”

Jim celebrated his 15 minutes of TV fame with a pop star-themed fancy dress party on Saturday as his family and friends crowded in to watch the show.

Jim said: “When I sang I was really nervous. My performance went by in a blur - so when I saw myself on Saturday it was like seeing it for the first time.”

Jim wasn’t the wnner but loved the experience: “Harry Hill took part in celebrity Stars In Their Eyes and he sang as Morrissey as well, It was great to talk to him about Morrissey.”
