£100,000 business boost on A62

BUSINESSES in Failsworth are to be given a £100,000 boost to spruce up their premises.

The Oldham Council money is in addition to the £1.2 million invested to help businesses in the Independent Quarter and Shaw and Lees district centres.

Independent businesses along the “Gateway to Failsworth” on the A62 can use the fund to improve shop fronts.

Council leader Jim McMahon said: “Independent businesses play an important part in sustaining the vibrancy of our high streets. We are already seeing the positive impact this kind of support is having in our successful independent quarter.

“The A62 is the gateway to Failsworth and this investment will strengthen the connectivity between Oldham and Manchester, and the M60, as well as attracting more visitors to shop in the area.”

The first Failsworth business to apply for the funding has been TriFit Cycles, which opened in October.

Owner Andy Taylor, a Great Britain triathlete, said: “This is a really good initiative to help businesses along the A62. We are new on the block and anything that can help our visibility and bring in more customers is welcome.”
