MP demands answers over critical report

Failsworth MP Angela Rayner wants urgent action following an Ofsted inspection’s demand for improvements in local children’s services.
The MP has requested a meeting with fellow Oldham MPs Debbie Abrahams and Michael Meacher and Oldham Council’s chief executive Carolyn Wilkins to decide on the next step.
The report, which follows a four-week inspection in May and June, says particular attention needs to be paid to children in need of help and protection, looked-after children and care-leavers.
Inspectors said the vast majority of children receive services appropriate to their needs but the overall standard is too variable.
Mrs Rayner said: “I am concerned that some of Oldham’s most vulnerable children may not be getting the help and support they need.”
