LABOUR’S overwhelming victory in the Oldham by-election shows how “strong” the party is, Jeremy Corbyn insisted on a visit to the town this morning.

The Labour leader visited Oldham today and posed with newly-elected Oldham West and Royton MP Jim McMahon on the steps of Chadderton Town Hall.

Mr Corbyn arrived at in the constituency of Oldham West and Royton, shortly before 10.30am this morning to meet McMahon.

Standing on the steps to the hall among a crowd of Labour supporters the party leader - who did not take questions from press - made a brief speech praising Mr McMahon before leaving by car.

Mr Corbyn said: “Jim is an experienced council leader and brilliant local

man who can speak up for the people of this town, can speak up in Parliament for them and bring about the kind of decent, prosperous opportunity future that we want for everybody in this country.”

“It shows just how strong, how deep-rooted and how broad our party, the Labour Party, is for the whole of Britain.”
