Fond farewell to Mr Motoring

Date published: 20 January 2016

FAILSWORTH driving instructor Ken Carr, who helped to put generations of Oldhamers on the road, has died at the age of 77.

The great-grandfather loved his work and gave his last lesson on Christmas Eve. Later he fell ill with pneumonia, which arose during treatment for cancer.

His son, Paul, who lives in Spain, said: “My father was well-loved and will be sadly missed.

“He was very popular and such a nice, nice man. He taught generations of the same family, and they all loved him.”

Mr Carr set up the Failsworth-based Ken Carr School of Motoring more than 40 years ago, and before that he worked as a police driving instructor.

Mr Carr leaves a wife, Carol, three children - Paul Carr, Hayley Wilson and Jodie Kanagasabay - four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

The funeral is on Friday at St John’s Church, Failsworth, at 2pm.
