Pubs fined for illegally showing football

TWO Oldham pubs have been ordered to pay £15,000 to the Premier League for copyright infringements after broadcasting football matches without a licence.

The Crown and Cushion in Oldham Road, Failsworth was ordered to pay £8,000, and the Hope and Anchor Inn of Sandy Lane, Royton, was told to pay £7,000 by the High Court.

The fines are part of a wave of civil actions across the UK against pubs that illegally stream live Premier League games.

In the UK Sky and BT Sport have the rights to broadcast Premier League games livel any other provider is in breach of the law.

The two pubs didn’t respond to requests to comment.
