Travel passes up for grabs for school pupils

PARENTS are being urged to apply for cheaper travel for their children on public transport, with the school year around the corner.

Transport for Greater Manchester's (TfGM) popular igo pass can be used on all buses, and on Metrolink, in Greater Manchester, proving that the owner is 16 or under and therefore entitled to a cheaper fare than a full adult ticket.

The application process for the igo pass can take up to 10 days and people are urged to complete an application form as soon as possible to make sure they can use the lower fares when travelling to and from school.

There is an administrative charge of £5 for the pass and it's valid until August 31 after the user's 16th birthday.

Councillor Andrew Fender, chairman of the TfGM Committee, said: "We are working hard to make travel easier in Greater Manchester. One way we do this is by providing concessionary fares so that it is cheaper for young people with an igo pass to travel.
