Romanian holiday now a staycation

Date published: 04 October 2013

HOLIDAY time is over and having recently returned from a two-week break, all that remains is to count the cost.

Not so, however, for our Romanian friends - who will soon be returning from their holidays to add up their profits. How so I hear you say, have we really become even more of a laughing stock of Europe? Well, judge for yourself.

Romanian beggars who came to the UK looking for rich pickings (including pockets) some months ago have recently returned from their holidays too.

The only difference between them and us is that we paid for their holiday back home in Romania.

How so? We (the gormless taxpayers of the UK) had a whipround to provide the beggars with money so they could go home.

Having visited family and friends, the beggars have now returned from their holiday to good old England to take up home in bus shelters, train stations, shop doorways and parks.

At the end of a no-doubt restless night they pick up their belongings and set off for another day of begging at best, criminal activity at worst, and all sponsored by good old (stupid) us.

Across the English Channel, the French were also anticipating a flood of Romanian and Albanian beggars but have banned them from their shores. And, of course, the French did not subsidise a holiday at home for their hard-faced visitors but might just provide a few empty wagons and lorries to send some of their visitors over here. Lucky us.

And so, over the next few weeks and months our towns and cities will be besieged by this army of beggars just ahead of the thousands of other Romanians and Albanians who, courtesy of the European Union, will be joining us in a few months’ time.
Perhaps we should start saving up now to fund their welcome to the UK party.
