Goda Tungl are a band in a hurry

THEY might only be raw teenagers in a band that hasn’t yet been together for a year, but Oldham outfit Goda Tungl have packed plenty into 2014 so far — and can’t wait for next year.

The four members of Goda Tungl — a name taken from an obscure song penned by an Icelandic artist — first met during their days at North Chadderton School.

However, it wasn’t until earlier this year that 18-year-old vocalist Scott Brown, guitarists Sam Holtom (17) and Tom Nixon (18), and percussionist and sampler Harrison Boase (18) got together to form a band which has since been working hard to hone a niche guitar-based electronic sound which has already been compared favourably to the Cure and the Smiths, among others.

After putting in six months rehearsal time, Goda Tungl’s first gig was in September at the town’s popular Jackson’s Pit haunt, and they have since spread their wings over Manchester with showcases at the Roadhouse and Night and Day, among other venues, all which have been well received.

It’s been an encouraging learning curve, as guitarist Holtom admits.

He said: “The more gigs we play means we’re getting used to setting up quicker which is good, but just getting tighter with each show is something that we’re enjoying.

“Playing in front of more and more people has to give us more confidence too, and of course all this is helping us to gel.”

Goda Tungl have further dates booked in Oldham, Manchester and Liverpool’s Bumper Club on Saturday, December 13, while they’ve also found time to record a four-track EP under the guidance of up-coming Salford University-based Future Works producer Adam Briffa.
