MUSIC EXTRA: TALENTED Oldham electro outfit Goda Tungl are hoping their forthcoming new EP will provide a boost after an encouraging first half to the year.

Appearances on BBC Radio Manchester and 6 Music have complemented high-profile support slots with the likes of Manmade and Misty Miller for frontman Scott Brown, guitar pair Tom Nixon and Sam Holtom, and sampling wizard Harrison Boase.

Armed with six new tracks in their follow-up to the popular “Applewhite Nettles” EP, Brown is hoping the latest tracks will indicate progress.

He said: “This latest batch of songs is more advanced than ‘Applewhite Nettles’, definitely. We have been playing them right from the start of the band, in fact one of them is the first song we wrote. The tracks always end up sounding like us I think, but they’re all different.

“My lyrics have come on a lot. I don’t want to always write straight-up love songs. so we’re pleased with what we’ve come up with this time.”

The six new tracks — one so-far unnamed, as well as “Shabba”, “Drive”, “Mega Fauna”, “Teething” and “Rebirth” — have been recorded at Adam Briffa’s Future Works studio.

Asked about possible influences, Brown added: “The electronic sound is definitely the direction we want to move into, still. There’s one song on the EP that’s fully electronic; there will be very little guitar sound on it. Harry is really into Depeche Mode and the Human League, where I also like stuff from that era, particularly Cabaret Voltaire.”

Goda Tungl is currently gearing up for a launch gig at Manchester’s hip Night and Day venue on September 3. More gigs will hopefully follow

“I’m still really excited about Goda Tungl. We’re all conscious not to lose momentum. When the EP comes out it’ll help us kick off again.”

Look out for news of the band’s EP release date and gigs on its Twitter and Facebook feeds.
