Cupids hail fantastic tour support

Cupids’ maiden nationwide tour was an unqualified success.

Oldham tunesters Jake Fletcher, Sid Cooper, Ryan Comac and James Cardus spent almost the whole of last month on the road, playing 16 venues around the country.

Now back home and already working on new material, frontman Fletcher has had time to reflect on the tour.

Fletcher said: “We all had a really top time. We definitely got a lot out of it. We think it’s done wonders for our fan base, which of course is crucial. People were picking up on us all the time. We met a lot of nice people.”

Cupids took to the road months after making the momentous decision to change musical direction, and vitally their name, from the Gramotones.

Some punters questioned the switch, but Fletcher is now 100 per cent convinced it was the right call, given the reaction.

“We’ve loved the reaction we’ve had from fans and now, looking back at the tour as a whole, we know we’ve done the right thing.

“One or two of the gigs were a bit difficult; some of the audiences were a bit thin at the odd gig, both for us and Blossoms, but generally in the big cities the crowds were great. We’re heading in the right direction and that’s all we can ask for.

“We had a great reaction from tour booking agents too. They saw us in Brighton, London, Sheffield, Manchester and loved us.”

Cupids brought the curtain triumphantly down on their tour with a sold-out show alongside newly-signed Blossoms at the Ritz in Manchester.

“The reaction was just amazing,” Fletcher said. “We’ve never known support like it, to be honest. It was packed when we took to the stage and we were clapped on and off there. It was a real buzz.

“That was a crucial gig for us. It was just the best way to end the tour.”

Fans haven’t seen or heard the last of Cupids in 2015. The boys have been recording at the 80 Hertz studios at the Sharp Project in Newton Heath, with a new tune set for release before the year is out.

Cupids are also playing live again in Manchester, headlining their own show at the Deaf Institute on December 19.
