I’VE been recalling with a big smile this week that it was 1983 when Howard Jones first burst on to the contemporary music scene with his very English songwriting, pioneering synthesizers and thought-provoking lyrics.

Fans can check out Howard in Manchester when he plays the prestigious Royal Northern College of Music venue on February 18. His solo show will provide an intimate trip through Howard’s 30-year music career.

Tickets are £22.50 from www.rncm.ac.uk/performance/howard-jones/

A PACKED festive period of rock n’ roll is in prospect at Whittles in Oldham.

Tickets to both Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve are now available for £3.

Classic heavy metal covers are the order of the day at the King Street venue on Thursday, courtesy of the excellent Snakesplay.

Rush, Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin covers will then be in plentiful supply on New Year’s Eve when Hold Your Fire will be the main feature of the night.

Boxing Day brings band A Band of Gypsies - for which admission is free.

CUPIDS have released two new tracks as a Christmas present for fans.

The Oldham darlings have ‘Confession box’ and ‘Heaven knows me now’ available from iTunes and Spotify.

TICKETS are still available for Oldham indie stars Ok Broken at the prestigious Soundwaves competition final at the O2 Academy in Leeds on January 16.

Check out the band’s Facebook site for more details.

TEENAGE hopefuls The Recreation have posted footage of their newest track on the band’s Facebook page.

Entitled simply “You”, the track was filmed at a recent gig.

Owen, Tom, George and Sam will headline Club Academy in Manchester on January 22.
