Anxious wait after Joy injury

OLDHAM RL Club are anxiously waiting for medical reports on in-form front-rower Phil Joy, who was taken to hospital with a dislocated shoulder after the 20-18 defeat by London Broncos at Bower Fold.

He was injured at the height of an intense battle with Roughyeds clinging to an 18-16 lead.

Medical staff attempted to put the joint back in place at the ground, but without success.

Earlier, a physically-demanding game was held up for a few minutes after Oldham's Scott Leatherbarrow was laid out in what seemed to be an accidental clash of heads.

STITCHED

He didn't take any further part in the game, after which he had a gashed forehead stitched.

On-loan centre Tuoyo Egodo didn't play because he hurt his sternum (chest) in the 8-6 defeat at Featherstone. His place went to dual-reg youngster Sam Wood, from Huddersfield Giants, who scored both Oldham tries.

Roughyeds remain in the top half of the Championship thanks to a defensive record matched only by Featherstone Rovers.

Five clubs are on two points, with Oldham's for-and-against figures placing them above Halifax, Swinton Lions, Sheffield Eagles and Batley Bulldogs.

Further down are Dewsbury Rams and Bradford Bulls.
