'No real pride in our defence'

SCOTT Naylor was left a very disappointed coach by the way his Oldham side lacked aggression from the off at Toulouse.

An opening score after only 46 seconds set the tone for a first half that was one-way traffic.

While Oldham hit back at the start of the second period, scoring tries through Kieran Gill, Joe Burke and Richard Lepori, the French side stretched the lead again to make it five victories in a row.

"If you allow Toulouse to do what they did, they are a team that will take advantage. That's what happened in the first half," Naylor said.

"Unfortunately, we didn't turn up.

"We did the wrong things and showed no aggression and no real pride in our defence.

"Really disappointingly, we played the complete opposite to how we played the previous week against Bradford.

"Toulouse are one of the most dangerous teams in the division with the ball in their hands. We spoke about it all week. But all the things we spoke about and worked on, we went out on the rugby pitch and did the exact and complete opposite.

"I know they scored 58 points, but the first try basically summed up the whole game. There was no contact, no real energy or desire to win the flow and no communication in defence. Basically, it was just soft.

"We have done this at Batley and at Hull KR. We seemed to get a response at half-time, which is disappointing as I would rather have that at the beginning of the game.

"I don't know why it is. We came out with more aggression and stopped Toulouse from scoring, played to come game plan, scored two game-plan tries.

"But then for some reason we completely went away from what was working for us and back to the team we had been in the first half.

"It was then just too easy for them. It's frustrating as a coach and we need to learn a lot very quickly."
