Oldham call on the spirit of Hull KR

SCOTT Naylor will urge his players to "give everything" in pursuit of a fifth-round Ladbrokes Challenge Cup upset at Featherstone on Sunday (3pm).

Oldham pulled off one of the biggest cup shocks of all time at Hull KR a year ago and the Roughyeds boss believes lightning CAN strike twice.

He has also assured fans that his team won't be fazed by the razzmatazz surrounding Rovers celebrations to mark the 50th anniversary of their 1967 Wembley triumph against Barrow.

Former captain Malcolm Dixon, who led out Rovers at Wembley half a century ago, will again walk out ahead of the team on Sunday, wearing his original cup final shirt and carrying the ball that was used in the final.

Sunday's match programme has been modelled on the one issued at Wembley in '67.

Said Naylor: "These celebrations are nothing to do with us. We are going to play rugby, nothing else. Our sole aim is to be in the hat for the next round.

"They're a tough team to beat, especially at home, but Rochdale did it and we came close to doing it in the league game.

"We'll be giving everything, like we did against Bradford, Swinton and Halifax and we'll see what happens."

With no dual-reg men available and on-loan Tuoyo Egodo ruled out because Castleford don't want him cup-tied, Naylor will pick from the 19 fit bodies he has left.

That comprises the 17 who deserved to win at Halifax, but didn't, less Egodo and dual-reg Mikey Wood but with the addition of George Tyson, David Hewitt, Danny Grimshaw and Richard Lepori.

Having been rested at Fax on Monday, those four should be busting a gut to lead from the front against a Rovers side that is bound to miss the guile and tactical expertise of suspended stand-off Anthony Thackeray, one of the best and most experienced halves in the division.

OLDHAM (from): Bent, Burke, Chisholm, Clay, Davies, Gee, Gill, Grimshaw, Hewitt, Hughes, Langtree, Leatherbarrow, Lepori, Neal, Owen, Thompson, Turner, Tyson, Ward.

The twin left-side thrusts of second-row man John Davies and two-try centre Chris Ulugia gave Oldham most trouble in their 8-6 defeat on the same ground in the second league game of the season.

The anticipated return of Grimshaw or Tyson should stiffen up that side defensively.

Rovers boss Jon Sharp was delighted with his Easter results in which they held Hull KR to eight points at Craven Park and then battered Bradford Bulls at home.

He said: "I expect a bruiser against Oldham. They pushed us close at home in the league back in February and they will be coming to cause an upset."

To say nothing of hoping to be party-poopers!
