Relief as Turner receives all-clear

A NEURO-SURGEON has cleared Oldham's Scott Turner to play again - good news for player and club ahead of Saturday's televised Summer Bash derby clash with Rochdale Hornets at Blackpool (2.30pm kick-off).

Full-back or wing, Turner was concussed in the 28-24 win at Dewsbury Rams on April 30 and he's since missed matches against London Broncos and Batley Bulldogs.

"He's passed all his head tests and he's been given the green light by the surgeon, so he'll be available for selection on Saturday," confirmed club chairman Chris Hamilton.

WAITING

Prop Phil Joy, who dislocated his left shoulder for the second time against Batley last Sunday, is now waiting for an operation.

It was his first game back after three months of hard work and rehab following his first dislocation in February.

Added Hamilton: "He's a bit down because he'd worked so conscientiously over such a long period to get back quickly.

"He recognises that injuries are part and parcel of the sport. Furthermore, he knows the club will fully support him.

"He's hoping to get his operation done quickly, so that he'll be ready for the start of pre-season training in November."

X-rays have shown there's no fracture; just the dislocation.

Roughyeds have revealed that on-loan Kieran Gill didn't play against the Bulldogs on Sunday because he was named in parent club Castleford's 19-man squad for their Magic Weekend clash with Leeds Rhinos at St James' Park, Newcastle.

It isn't yet known whether the young centre will be available to Scott Naylor for Saturday's Summer Bash game at Bloomfield Road, but the clubs will be in contact soon.

Hornets hope to have props Joe Taira (hamstring) and Gavin Bennion (back) ready again after injury, but hooker Ben Moores looks like missing out with damaged ribs.

South Stand tickets are sold out, but fans can still buy reserved seats in West Stand , either for Saturday alone or for Saturday and Sunday, from the Oldham club on 07904 898177 between 9.30am and 1.30pm on Tuesday and Wednesday and between 9.30am and 3.30pm on Friday.
