Good to eat! Naylor's tasty approach

Date published: 09 June 2017

SCOTT Naylor took a fresh approach to training last night . . . he left the tackle bags in the cupboard and went out with his players for something to eat.

"We went out as a group and we had a laugh," said the Oldham RL coach, whose Roughyeds have lost their last four games and on Sunday go up against Hull KR, the best side outside Super League, at Bower Fold.

He added: "I had a professional chat with some of the lads, but beyond that we were out purely as a bonding session.

"Sometimes it's good to get way from every-day routine and to do something completely different.

"In the five years I've been at the club you can count on one hand the number of times we've spent a bit of time together away from the job."

SUSPENDED

With Richard Lepori suspended, Danny Grimshaw doubtful with groin trouble, Kieran Gill (knee) out for the season and Tuoyo Egodo currently back at Castleford, Naylor's main concerns will centre on his backs.

In the normal run of events Scott Turner would be expected to switch from wing to full-back, but he might be required in the centre with dual-reg reinforcements coming in from Huddersfield.

Talking for the first time about his side's 26-4 loss at Swinton, Naylor said: "The score didn't reflect the game. They scored two breakaway tries from our mistakes.

"Swinton played well and took their chances, but we played better than we did against Batley and Rochdale.

"Despite the result there were a lot of positives. If we keep working hard and have confidence in what we're doing we'll start to pick up points again.

"As far as Sunday's game is concerned, Hull KR will see it as just another step on their journey back to Super League."

Rovers have a few players out injured, including Adam Quinlan, Thomas Minns, James Greenwood and George Lawler, and in their last two games they edged home by one point against Bradford Bulls and then drew at Featherstone after trailing 16-0 at half-time.

Coach Tim Sheens said: "We've still a long way to go before we can finalise our strongest team, but in the meantime we've got to carry on winning matches.

"When everybody is healthy, we hope to peak in the Middle 8s."
