TRY FOR OLDHAM . . . George Tyson
Oldham RL 24, Rochdale 34
OLDHAM slipped to second from bottom in the Kingstone Press Championship after losing to fierce rivals Rochdale in the final match of the regular season.
The Roughyeds were slow out of the blocks as they conceded 18 unanswered points, before getting on the scoreboard at Bower Fold.
With a half-time deficit of 20-12, Oldham were very much back in the game, and they got within two points of Hornets after notching the opening converted score in the second half.
Rochdale kept Oldham at bay, though, and were able to stretch their lead as the seconds ticked by.
Daniel Smith, Adam Clay, Dave Hewitt and George Tyson went in for Oldham. Scott Leatherbarrow kicked all four goals.
Kevin Penny and Declan Kay shared four tries, while Jake Eccleston and Danny Yates also dived over. Yates also landed four goals against his home-town team.
Swinton Lions leapfrogged Oldham after defeating basement side Bradford Bulls 16-6.
