OLDHAM'S Danny Langtree has been ruled out of Sunday's Kingstone Press Championship Shield opener at Sheffield Eagles and now faces a scan to discover the extent of his bicep injury.

The Roughyeds camp had their fingers crossed that the 26-year-old prop would be available for the showdown at the Beaumont Legal Stadium.

Instead, coach Scott Naylor and his coaching team have decided on a safety-first policy.

RISKED

He said: "Danny will have a scan on Monday, so won't be risked.

"We were hopeful that he might be in contention, but things change and we've decided to find out the extent of the injury.

"That's because it's a bit of an unknown.

"It's not fair on Danny if he plays on Sunday. If something happens, he could end up having six months off and nobody wants that.

"Let's get some answers first and if he's told he can play after the scan, then all well and good."

Centre George Tyson will serve the first of a two-match ban this weekend - he also misses the home game against Bradford Bulls on Sunday week - but new loan signings Luke Hooley (Wakefield Trinity), Jared Simpson (Huddersfield Giants) and Ben Morris (St Helens) will come into contention.

They are talented young players who are climbing the ladder and will be anxious to impress in their spell at Oldham.
