Oldham sights on a full house
Date published: 01 September 2010
ROUGHYEDS are anticipating a capacity crowd of 1,502 when they entertain York City Knights at the Whitebank Stadium on Sunday week in the Co-operative Championship One semi-final play-off.
The winners go straight through to the Grand Final at Warrington two weeks later, while the losers are given a second chance to make amends at home against the outright winners of the four teams finishing fourth to seventh.
York have taken a supply of tickets and are expecting to bring a following of 300 or more for a match in which they hope to repeat their 34-28 win in the Roughyeds’ historic and first-ever game at Whitebank on May 9.
Oldham fans have been buying tickets steadily since they went on sale last week and the club is urging others to do the same to make sure they are not disappointed on the day.
“We would love to hit the capacity and the signs are looking good,” said chairman Chris Hamilton.
“Unlike most other games at Whitebank so far there is going to be a decent away following for this one and that in itself is going to push up the size of the crowd.”
Normal league prices are being charged and standing tickets are available Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, from the club’s office in Lansdowne Road, Chadderton. Telephone (0161) 628 3677.
They are on sale at £10 adults, £8 concessions and £3 under-16s.
The only seat tickets being sold currently are to season-ticket holders at £12 adults and £10 concessions, but seats will be available on the day for the usual transfer of £2 on a first come basis.
Comments
Not quite like the atmosphere at Watersheddings in the 50s.
You are quite right there TW. The Penny Rush, the large crowds and great games over the years. Great pies! Good cup of Bovril! In the club afterwards and great rapport amongst home supporters and the away fans.
Now a full house will only be just over 1500. How times change. The 'powers that were' during those years allowed the ground to deteriorate around us (the supporters). Let's hope that a bright future lies ahead.
Good luck Roughyeds.
Plenty of happy memories of the good old days. They may come again (who knows) but as Bob Dylan sang: The Times they are a changing'. Only time will tell how they favour the Roughyeds.
oh great that means i wont be able to get my car in or out of my drive again do to the parking antics of some people out there, good luck to oldham but i hope and pray we will get traffic cones all the way down whitebank rd instead of just near the ground.
I thought the game might have been moved to Boundary Park as the offer was made that if they was a large enough crowd expected Latics would consider.
Before you have a hissy fit I am only raising this as Roughyeds need the money to pay off HR revenue.
Good luck Roughyeds you deserve automatic promotion having won all you away games and finishing second by a country mile.
good luck on sunday oldham i know you can doit. i hpe we do get a full house we need it and we deserve it for the effort put in by all concerned this year.its unusual to see loyalty by all concerned at a club but everybody took a cut in wages too help the club out including tony benson who i think is the best coach we have had for at least ten years.
Have Your Say

It would be great to see a full house and to see the team put on a top performance.
