Vandals strike at rugby club

Date published: 19 December 2011

THE Whitebank Stadium, home of Oldham RL Club, has been vandalised again - only two weeks after youths broke into the ground and did £1,000 worth of damage.

This time vandals targeted the club’s refreshment trailer, which the Roughyeds acquired from Super League club St Helens when work to demolish the Saints’ former home at Knowsley Road started last year.

“They smashed their way into the trailer and then caused more damage inside, but there was nothing for them to steal because we don’t leave things in there,” said club chairman Chris Hamilton.

Scene-of-crime officers have taken away items which may have fingerprints on them. This is the seventh time Whitebank has been raided in less than a year, having suffered five breaks-ins and two fires.

Anyone with information on the incident, on Thursday night, should contact Oldham RL Club on 0161 628 3677 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800-555 111.

Shaun McGrath.....please tell how you would deal with these naughty children? Take them away on an outward bound course? A reward of a Playstation perhaps? How about Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio's approach.....make the yobs wear pink pyjamas and march through Oldham town centre shackled together so everybody can see them. Wouldn't happen here as too woolly minded Liberals put the criminal's welfare first.

I'd dearly love for some of the players to get their hands on them!!

It may well be that someone has a grudge against the club. Possibly locals causing the damage as no one would travel to Limeside just in the hope there might be something worth taking.
