LIAM Gilchrist: sticking with Oldham
LIAM Gilchrist says 2013 has to be the year Oldham win promotion from Championship One.
The prop, who has signed for another season, is also hoping to make an immediate impact on new coach Scott Naylor.
Roughyeds have had six seasons in the sport’s third tier. New boss Naylor’s challenge is to win promotion from a revamped nine-club division which will include three new teams.
Gilchrist said: “We’ve had two up-and-down seasons, this last one mainly due to injuries. But we’ve got to win promotion in 2013. It has to be THE year.”
He is the third member of Benson's 2012 first-team squad to sign a new contract.
He went on: “It will be interesting to see what sort of a squad the new boss can put together, but early indications look good.”
It will be 23-year-old Gilchrist’s third season at Oldham, and he hopes it will be his best of the three.
“I’m striving to improve year on year and after two full seasons at Oldham I need to kick on,” he said.
