Naylor’s thumbs-up for vice-captain

SURE TO MAKE AN IMPACT... Roughyeds’ new vice-captain Sam Gee.
ROUGHYEDS boss Scott Naylor has appointed Sam Gee the team’s vice-captain.
Gee, 26 on Thursday, accepted the early gift from the boss as Roughyeds prepared for the first game of the season on Sunday. Lewis Palfrey is team captain.
Naylor said Gee had been a strong candidate for the captain’s job; "He ran Lewis very close," he explained.
"He never gives less than 100 per cent; he is well liked by the players and we are fortunate to have him here. He has the ability and the potential to be in Super League.
"Hopefully we’ll see the best of him this season. I would love to see him fulfil his potential, but to do that he needs to realise how good he could be. Like Lewis, he’ll set a good example, of that I'm certain."
Gee is the grandson of Ken Gee, who starred as a prop for Wigan and Great Britain after World War II and is generally recognised as one of the sport's best-ever front-row forwards.
