Self-belief the key for coach Naylor

AFTER two losses in a row Oldham boss Scott Naylor has urged his players to stick to their self-belief.

“Things aren’t running for us at the moment,” said Naylor after a 36-10 cup defeat at the South Leeds Stadium in which Roughyeds had two tries disallowed and missed at least four gilt-edged chances.

“We need to be more clinical in attack near our opponents’ line and more ruthless in defence near our own line, but having said that we are not too far away from being a very good team.

“The main thing is we must not lose our belief in what we are doing, both on the training field and on match days.

“This was always going to be a big ask for us against a team from a higher division, but after 25 minutes we led 6-4 and there was nothing between us.

“In the next 15 minutes we created chances and failed to capitalise while they scored three to lead 22-6 at half-time which in no way reflected the balance of play in the first 40 minutes.

“A lot of the stuff we did was good, but only once did we put the ball over their try line and when we had to defend and keep them out we couldn’t manage it.”
