Langtree edges ahead after try-double

DANNY Langtree’s try-scoring feats in Oldham’s second row continue to be recognised.

His two against Oxford gave him six for the season, pushed him ahead in the Roughyeds’ list — and, for the second time, earned him a place in the Premier Sports Championship One team of the week.

The 22-year-old former St Helens forward also picked up another point in the division’s player-of-the-year rankings which took him to joint ninth place overall after three rounds.

Second to Langtree at club level is 19-year-old hooker Adam Files, who has touched down in each of the Roughyeds’ last four games to register five tries in total.

Coach Scott Naylor said of Files, who is on a season-long loan from Salford City Reds: “I’ve never seen anyone at his age so dangerous 10 metres from the line.”

In a nine-club division it’s Oldham’s turn to have a bye this weekend, but the under-20s play the youngsters from Championship leaders Halifax at Whitebank on Friday, kicking off at 7.30pm.

OLDHAM chairman Chris Hamilton will be among Radio Manchester’s studio guests tomorrow (6pm- 7pm) to debate the future of rugby league in the two part-time professional divisions below Super League, the Kingstone Press Championship and Championship One.
