More is better as Danny returns to club

BATLEY’S Danny Whitmore is on his way back to Oldham - initially on a month’s loan.

Roughyeds expect to complete the deal in time for the 24 year old to figure in plans for Sunday’s game at Hemel Stags.

Whitmore can play hooker or half-back, as he did in his three seasons at Oldham, but will be returning to his home-town club exclusively as a half-back, to replace the departed Jamie Dallimore.

Whitmore will become a third half-back alongside Lewis Palfrey and Neil Roden, providing Naylor with choice for the two key decision-making roles.

A former Waterhead junior, Whitmore spent several years in Salford City Reds’ academy before signing for Oldham at the start of the 2010 season. For Oldham he scored 10 tries in 57 games, 44 of them off the bench. In three seasons he became a firm favourite at Whitebank.

At the end of last season he and Miles Greenwood moved up a division to Batley Bulldogs.

Naylor said of Whitmore: “He is keen to move back on loan to renew acquaintance with some of his mates from last year.

“Needless to say, we hope he will provide us with the kind of rugby we all know he is capable of.”
