Roughyeds looking for more practice

ROUGHYEDS hope to get RFL approval to follow Saturday's home friendly against a Leigh side with a second practice match the following weekend.

That will keep the side active for the two weekends before their likely entry into the Championship One play-offs on September 15 at Whitebank.

Club chairman Chris Hamilton, meanwhile, has spoken of the 'bizarre' situation after its final league game at Rochdale on August 15.

Two weeks on, Roughyeds still don't know whether they will win promotion as champions or be forced to push at the play-offs.

All will be revealed on Sunday when North Wales Crusaders are expected to do enough against South Wales Scorpions to leapfrog Oldham into top place and take the title.

Roughyeds will then have to wait two more weeks before their first play-off game, putting the decider a month after the official end of their season.

Said Hamilton: "I can't ever recall a situation like this. We keep hoping Crusaders will slip up, while having to make plans on the assumption they won't.”
