Oldham win race to sign Robinson

HALF-BACK Brett Robinson has rejected approaches from clubs in both Championship divisions to sign a one-year contract with Oldham.

The Wigan-born 23 year old, who was with Oxford last season, is a recognised playmaker, with the expertise to enhance Roughyeds' creativity in midfield.

Oxford offered him a new deal and Swinton Lions, newly-promoted North Wales Crusaders and Rochdale Hornets and relegated Hunslet Hawks were among other clubs to have shown interest.

Coach Scott Naylor, delighted to get his man, said Robinson was hungry for success and believed Oldham would provide him with the rugby environment he was looking for.

Added Naylor: "When players who have been offered Championship rugby still want to come to Oldham, it shows that people in the game are saying the right things about us.

"A lot of clubs have been chasing him. He will fit into the way we are doing things and the way we are attempting to progress the Roughyeds team and the Oldham club. He's the perfect signing for us.”

Said Robinson, who lives and works in Wigan: "I liked what Scott had to say about his ambitions for Oldham. It's a good club and a good set-up and I know they'll be pushing for promotion again, which is just what I want.”
