Welsh trip first for Roughyeds

Date published: 02 December 2013

OLDHAM RL Club will begin their quest for the 2014 Kingstone Press Championship One title with a trip to South Wales Scorpions on Sunday, March 2.

The Northern Rail Cup will not be contested next season, but there will be an extended league programme in which each of the nine Championship One clubs will play 20 games, four more than last time.

A home and away format will offer 16 games, with the four extras picked at random. Roughyeds, who finished second last season, will play fifth-placed Hemel Stags and bottom club Gloucestershire All Golds at Whitebank, and fourth-placed London Skolars and seventh-placed Gateshead Thunder away.

Hemel will be the opposition for Scott Naylor’s men in their first home game on March 9. Oldham’s Good Friday game will be away at Hunslet Hawks.

York City Knights, who came down with Hunslet, start life with Gloucester at home, while the Hawks kick off at Hemel.
