Naylor satisfied as Oldham beat ‘dangerous’ team

Oldham coach Scott Naylor piled praise on his second-row forwards Danny Langtree and Josh Crowley for their power and consistency in a hard-fought win against Gloucester All Golds.

"We played a lot of good stuff and it was nice to see us doing things we had been working on in training. Things are definitely moving in the right direction,” said Naylor.

"There were a lot of good individual performances, headed by Crowley and Langtree, who were absolutely outstanding. Their level of consistency is phenomenal. We are very lucky indeed to have these two as partners."

Gloucester had the lead for only three minutes of the game - but try as they might, Oldham couldn't shake them off in a second half of scoring by turns.

Naylor acknowledged his men had to dig deep to win: Roughyeds won 36-0 at the same Cheltenham venue last year.

But Naylor acknowledged: "This isn't the place it was last year. There has since been a huge improvement in the quality of players and staff and the rugby they play.

"Steve McCormack (All Golds’ new coach) has acquired some good, young lads who are keen, enthusiastic and eager to learn. Put those with a good coach and it's a dangerous combination.

"We deserved to win because we played good rugby and toughed it out when we needed to, which is what rugby league is all about.

"I was very pleased with our win. We showed a lot more grit and resolve in defence, which is what I've been asking for.”
