Practice makes perfect for main man Mo

THE secret of Mo Agoro’s current success lies in practice and enjoyment, the Oldham RL winger has revealed.

Once of Leeds Rhinos, the 21-year-old student of sports science scored his first hat-trick for Roughyeds in the 58-2 hammering of South Wales Scorpions.

It took his season total to 11, 10 of which have been scored in the last seven games. No other player in the professional game, including Super League, has scored a try in seven consecutive games to match Agoro’s run.

It started at Hunslet on Good Friday. After receiving the club’s man-of-the-match award at Whitebank, he said: “I’m enjoying my rugby better than I’ve ever enjoyed it. Whenever you’re enjoying doing something, you do it better and with more confidence.

“Also, I’ve been doing extra catching practice after training so I can get up and collect those high balls from Lewis Palfrey, and that has helped a lot too. But the main thing is enjoyment — it counts for such a lot.”

Coach Scott Naylor was delighted with his team’s performance, but warned that it needed to be attained in every game over what will be a highly competitive second half of the season.

“The challenge now is to reach these standards every time we go out,” said the Roughyeds coach.

“If we don’t perform to the same high standard at Gateshead next Sunday, and lose, everything we have achieved against South Wales will have been for nothing.”
