Naylor is on loan search

Date published: 30 July 2014

WITH the play-offs only six weeks away and several of his Oldham RL players nursing injuries, Scott Naylor hopes to bring in another player on loan.

He has one spot available — and he doesn’t want to waste it.

“I’m looking around, and it would be nice to bring in somebody else, but only if he’s the right man for the job,” said the Roughyeds’ coach.

“It isn’t easy because at this stage of the season clubs want to keep hold of their players, but we are certainly trying and looking at options.”

Oldham go to London Skolars on Sunday (3pm) with a major doubt surrounding centre David Cookson, who dislocated a wrist in the 24-23 win against Hunslet Hawks.

If he misses this game, to be played at the Queen Elizabeth 11 Stadium of Enfield Town FC in Middlesex, he will have a further two weeks in which to recover for the next one against Hemel Stags at Whitebank on August 17.

Half-back Steven Roper, who hurt an elbow against Hunslet, will be fit for the London trip, but the club’s medical staff are still working on Dale Bloomfield (dead leg) and Kenny Hughes (ankle ligaments).

Bloomfield was able to train with the squad last night, but Hughes was restricted to solo work under the supervision of physiotherapists.

Oldham have four players — more than any other club — in the Kingstone Press Championship One team of the week.

Winger Adam Clay, half-back Lewis Palfrey, prop Phil Joy and second-row man Danny Langtree were all rewarded for their fine displays against the Hawks.

Top team: Watson (Hunslet); Crabtree (Oxford), Pring (South Wales), Carleton (South Wales), Clay (OLDHAM); Emanuelli (South Wales), Palfrey (OLDHAM); Joy (OLDHAM), Stamp (Gateshead), Macdonald (London Skolars), Payne (Gateshead), Langtree (OLDHAM), Williams (London Skolars).

I think whenever the Chron use the words 'play-offs' they should follow it with (which Oldham will lose in).
