Mo high on confidence — Naylor

Date published: 06 August 2014

TAKE a bow, Mo Agoro. His try hat-trick at London Skolars earned Oldham’s powerful right-winger the accolade of Kingtone Press Championship One player of the week.

And that’s not all. Muscular Mo’s brilliant third score, which clinched a 38-28 win for Roughyeds, was judged to be try of the week.

It was a classical winger’s effort from long range, breaking London’s tough resistance with three minutes left.

The ex-Leeds Rhinos player (21) has now scored 17 Championship One tries in 15 games to go joint second in the divisional lists behind his Oldham team-mate Dale Bloomfield, who leads on 18.

At club level, and taking cup ties into account as well, you can’t split the two highest scorers wingers in the sport’s third tier, who are each on 18.

“Mo’s high on confidence as we head into the business end of the season,” said coach Scott Naylor.

“He missed the York game with a knee injury, but he's back with a vengeance and looking like his old self. He must have beaten half a dozen players to score his third try — a fantastic way in which to finish off a terrific individual performance.

“Apart from scoring tries, one of his best qualities is dealing with kicks under pressure.”

Brett Robinson was also rewarded for a sound performance at Enfield by inclusion in the divisional team of the week:

Meads (Gateshead); Agoro (OLDHAM), Brickwood (Hunslet), Craig (York), Capper (Gateshead); Beharrell (Gateshead), Robinson (OLDHAM); Roche (York), March (Hunslet), Aldous (York), Swindells (Hemel), Clarkson (Hunslet), Smith (Gloucester).

While Oldham have a weekend off, leaders York are at home to Gateshead and third-placed Hunslet go to Hemel.

ROUGHYEDS’ under-20s play Keighley at Whitebank on Saturday, 2.30pm kick-off, fielding a team which is likely to include some players from the first-team squad.

NEIL Roden’s testimonial dinner, due to take place on Saturday, has been postponed until later in the year, probably in October. The new date will be announced soon.
