QUALITY with a capital Q from first minute to last.

That’s how Scott Naylor summed up his side’s 31-12 win at York which pushed Oldham into the Championship One Grand Final for the second year in a row under his command.

As Roughyeds fans celebrated, Naylor, Lee Spencer and the players crossed the pitch to share the moment of triumph with them.

Later, the Oldham boss revealed the inside story of a fabulous win that sent shock waves reverberating around the league.

“We raised our game again to another level,” he said. “We haven’t produced many 80-minute performances this year, but this was the best — the most complete, all-round team effort in my two years at the club.

“We worked all week on finding ways to beat York and the lads carried out the plan to the letter. It was good to see they can adapt to whatever is required.

“York are a good team so first of all you’ve got to stop them. Then you’ve got to work out how to score points.

“A few things went our way and sometimes we had the bounce of the ball. I’m proud of the boys for many things, but none more so than for the way in which they have risen to the challenge of play-off rugby. In that regard, the experience they gained last year has so far been invaluable.”
