Files hoping injury nightmare is over

ADAM Files has left the pain, anguish and frustration of the last eight months behind him to sign a new contract with Oldham Rugby League Club.

He hopes 2015 will be as good as 2013 and hopes the right knee that wiped out his 2014 season holds up: “I’ve been given the all-clear,” he said. “Fingers crossed, the nightmare is over.

“Before this, I hadn’t missed a single game through injury. So you can imagine how frustrating it was to miss virtually a full season.”

The former Salford youngster joins Josh Crowley, Danny Langtree, Kenny Hughes, Jarrod Ward, Steve Roper, David Cookson, Jake Hughes, Steven Nield, Michael Ward, Phil Joy, Lewis Palfrey, Tom Dempsey and Richard Joy in a squad now rapidly taking shape.

Described by coach Scott Naylor as a player of “fantastic” potential, in his first year at Whitebank he scored 15 tries in 24 appearances and was second only to 21-try Jon Ford.

Said Naylor: “Adam has been out for so long that it will be like having a new player in the squad, and that’s good. He’s a fantastic player who is much under-rated. He has everything you need to be a good hooker. We are very lucky to have him.”
