Roughyeds duo making headlines

ADAM Neal and George Tyson have had good early-season form - recognised by inclusion in the latest ‘Rugby League World’ magazine’s team of the month.

Prop-forward Neal, in his first season at Whitebank, has played in each of Oldham’s seven games in three separate competitions – five of them wins.

Tyson has played in six games, operating equally well in the second row of the pack or in the threequarters.

Given that Roughyeds now have two recognised centres in Jon Ford and Tom Ashton, who made a promising debut against Coventry last Sunday, Tyson is likely to revert to the forwards where competition for places is intense.

Adam Clay, Steve Roper and Michael Ward were nominees for team of the month, but narrowly failed to win selection.

JOSH Johnson, who played for Oldham in the 38-10 win against Coventry on dual-reg from Huddersfield Giants, picked up his man-of-the-match award and said he enjoyed playing for his home-town team.

“I wondered what to expect,” he said. “But I had no need to worry. I like playing here. All the lads work for each other. They are one of the most closely-knit groups I’ve ever been part of.”

Johnson (20) had a spell on loan with Championship side Batley Bulldogs last season as part of his development at the Giants.

OLDHAM’S game at South Wales Scorpions on Sunday (3pm) will be played at Parc Dyffryn Pennar, home of Mountain Ash RFC, Mountain Ash CF45 4DA.

ROUGHYEDS have apologised to fans because there were no match-day programmes on sale at last Sunday’s Coventry game.

It was due to a breakdown at the printers, who were trying in vain until Saturday night, even travelling to Sheffield, to overcome the problem.

They sell at £2, but at the next home game against London Skolars on Sunday, April 26, fans will be able to buy that day’s programme and the one for the Coventry game for a total of £2.50.
