Riding high after points blitz

WATCHED by the RFL’s top man, Nigel Wood, a much-changed Oldham side won 50-12 in South Wales to take over the leadership of Kingstone Press League One.

The only other unbeaten side after three of the 22 rounds, Keighley Cougars, enjoyed a 36-16 win at Newcastle, but the margin of victory wasn’t enough to keep them on top.

“It’s early days yet, but it’s good to be up there,” said Roughyeds coach Scott Naylor, who can now prepare his side for two consecutive home games against London Skolars on Sunday and Gloucester All Golds the following week.

Tom Ashton hobbled off with a knee injury just before half-time in yesterday’s game at Mountain Ash. He will be assessed this week along with Jack Holmes and Danny Langtree, who also picked up knocks.

Naylor will bid to extend his winning charge to five games: visits to Whitebank by Skolars and the All Golds are followed by a much tougher schedule, in which Naylor’s men will play Barrow away, Newcastle Thunder at home, Keighley Cougars away and North Wales Crusaders at home in their next four games.
