We stepped it up — Naylor

TWELVE-TRY Oldham pushed League One’s north-south divide a little bit wider with their 64-0 hammering of Oxford.

On a day when all the southern sides took a pasting, Roughyeds worked hard to put defeats by Keighley and North Wales behind them.

Said a very happy Scott Naylor: “I liked the score, but it was no more than the by-product of how we played. Oxford came with a great attitude and, on the back of their four wins from six games, they had a real dig at us.

“They were big, aggressive and quick and they presented us with a big challenge, but to be fair we stepped up to the task this time after falling a bit short in our previous two games.

“We scored some quality tries, most of which came from good rugby and many of which were scored wide out on the touchlines. That made it difficult for Lewis (Palfrey) to kick the goals, but it was a good indication of the sort of attacking rugby we are aiming at.

“It was important to win after our last two defeats, but just as important was the need to reach a high level of performance and to perform well as a team. We achieved both and it was nice to see.”
