Red-hot Oldham’s top-spot ambition

HIGH-FLYING Oldham RL Club are focused on finishing top of Kingstone Press League One after opening up a four-point lead after hammering Keighley Cougars.
A Whitebank crowd of 888 — biggest of the season — roared on Roughyeds to their eighth win in a row and their second in eight days against top-three rivals.
Oldham have five games left, against Barrow and Swinton at Whitebank and away at Hemel Stags, Newcastle Thunder and Oxford.
“We’ve got to keep on winning, but it’s in our own hands now,” said head coach Scott Naylor. “We are training well, playing well and having some luck in keeping players healthy. “
Jack Holmes played the full game against Keighley while hobbling on the left wing after hurting his foot during the pre-match warm-up.
Adam Clay, the other winger, had to quit shortly before half-time with a rib injury.
Naylor went on: “Rib injuries are funny things. He could be out for three days or six weeks, depending on results of further investigation. Jack Holmes deserves a lot of credit for persevering and playing on one leg from start to finish.”
