Danny’s loyalty bonus

Promotion-seeking Oldham RL Club have retained Danny Langtree on a new two-year contract.

Described by club chairman Chris Hamilton as the "ultimate in tough professionals", the 24-year-old

former St Helens junior will have been at Whitebank for seven years by the time his new deal runs out.

This is his first two year agreement with the club and dovetails with coach Scott Naylor's current three-year commitment, which ends with the 2017 season.

Stability among coaching staff and senior players is considered to be a key element in the quest for success. Said Naylor: "Danny was already here when I arrived and I'm delighted he's staying. That says a lot about his loyalty to the club that signed him as a 19 year old.

"He trains hard, plays hard and fans won't need me to tell them how committed he is and how important he is to us within the team framework.

"He loves playing for Oldham and he deserves immense credit for all he has contributed to the club over the last five years."

Rugby League World magazine named him Championship One player of the year in 2014.

"Danny's been with us a few years and he's got better and better each year," added chairman Hamilton.

"His two-year deal, as opposed to the customary one-year contract, will be beneficial to both Danny and the club."

Langtree's first two seasons were spent in the reserves, but he became an immediate first-team regular on Naylor's arrival for the start of the 2013 campaign. Since then, he has played in 70 of a possible 75 games, scoring 36 tries.

"I'm very happy at Oldham and always have been," said Langtree. "We've had a great season and now we're all looking forward to the final promotion push.”
