Burke doubt

Oldham RL Club’s latest signing Joe Burke is doubtful for Sunday’s game at Workington after suffering a chest infection.

He trained with theteam for the first time on Tuesday but felt unwell and was then told to stay at home last night for another training session.

“There was no point in taking a risk on anybody else picking something up,” said coach Scott Naylor.

“He’s still in contention for Sunday, but we’ll see how he is nearer the time. He’s got to be doubtful because he isn’t 100 per cent and he’s only trained with us once. Another week and a bit more training with us and he’ll be absolutely fine.”

For the fifth game in a row there will be no dual-registration assistance because of partner club Huddersfield Giants’ continuing injury problems.

But Naylor will still have plenty of selection options, with everyone fully fit excpet long-term absentees Tom Ashton and Craig Briscoe.

said Naylor: “Going to Workington is as tough and intimidating now as it was 20 years ago. It will be a seriously good test of where we stand in the Championship.

“The boys are up for it and, having had last Sunday’s game against Bradford postponed, they are fresh and ready to go.”
