NEITHER Scott Naylor nor rival coach Phil Veivers liked what they saw in a scrappy game at Derwent Park.

The Australian was the happier of the two because his side won 23-12 to end a seven-match losing streak, calling it an “ugly” win.

A bitterly-disappointed Naylor was fiercely critical of Oldham’s lacklustre offering and felt it was two points thrown away.

He said: “Though Workington scored seven points in the last two or three minutes, the score was a true reflection of our poor performance. Some of the players didn’t perform at the level expected of them.

“After working all week on ways to beat Workington we went out and did something entirely different. When we did go to the game plan we looked more dangerous and we scored some points.

“Some of the lads were outstanding in their efforts and gave everything they had, but I couldn’t say that about everyone. We weren’t beaten by a better team; we were beaten by a side that had a real go at us and gave everything for their coach.”
