Hughes facing fitness fight

INJURED ribs make Kenny Hughes doubtful for Oldham’s game at Hull KR in the fifth round of the Ladbrokes Challenge Cup.

He didn’t train last night after picking up the injury in the win against Sheffield Eagles at the weekend.

“We’ll keep an eye on him and see how he is tomorrow, but at this stage it’s fair to say he’s doubtful,” said coach Roughyeds Scott Naylor, who confirmed a third hooker in the squad, Adam Files, was back training as normal after a stomach upset.

Danny Langtree and Danny Grimshaw, who didn’t figure in the home wins against Batley Bulldogs and Sheffield Eagles, will also be in contention for the tie against Super League's Robins on Saturday at the KC Lightstream Stadium (kick-off 2pm).

Naylor will be speaking to Huddersfield Giants boss Paul Anderson tosee if any of the Giants squad will be available to him on dual registration. Giants’ teenagers Liam Johnson and Tyler Dickinson have played in the Roughyeds last four games.

OLDHAM club chairman Chris Hamilton and his Leigh equivalent Derek Beaumont will be studio guests on BBC Radio Manchester’s ‘Rugby League Hour’ tomorrow, between 6pm and 7pm.
